IGP Orders Dismissal Of Officers Over Extra-Judicial Killing In Effurun

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, on Wednesday, ordered the dismissal of officers involved in the Effurun shooting incident, declaring that no uniform is a license to kill.

At a press briefing at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, the IGP said the action followed the killing of Mene Ogidi on April 26 in Effurun, Delta State.

He described the conduct of ASP Nuhu Usman as criminal, unprofessional, and a clear violation of police rules and procedures guiding the use of firearms.

The IGP said all officers connected to the incident were immediately transferred from Delta State Command to Abuja to face disciplinary processes.

He noted that the Force Disciplinary Committee handled senior officers, while the inspectors were subjected to an Orderly Room Trial.

According to IGP, findings confirmed a breach of Force Order 247 and established standard operating procedures, stressing that no suspicion justifies extrajudicial killing.

The Police Boss assured Nigerians of accountability within the force and reiterated the commitment to uphold the rule of law.

The IGP also extended condolences to the family of the deceased and urged the public to remain calm and law-abiding.
