FG Urged to Deepen Youth Inclusion in Climate Action

The Federal Government has been urged to strengthen the involvement of young people in climate action as part of efforts to promote sustainable and community-driven solutions to environmental challenges.

The Country Director of SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria, Eghosa Erhumwunse, made the call at a press briefing in Abuja

Erhumwunse said the initiative demonstrated the capacity of young people to lead climate advocacy and implement practical solutions at the grassroots level.

He explained that the project would also promote gender-responsive climate action while strengthening resilience among children, youths, and vulnerable groups across communities.

Erhumwunse urged government, civil society organisations, and the private sector to move beyond symbolic inclusion and provide concrete support that enables young people to actively participate in climate decision-making processes.

The Commissioner of Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Lagos State, Tokunbo Wahab, represented by Director Environmental services, Monsurat Bamire, said scaling up youth-led climate initiatives is critical to achieving climate resilience and promoting green skills among young people.

Also, Eco Champion, Hana Omokhaye, called for stronger partnerships and increased support to enable young people contribute more effectively to climate solutions.
