Rivers Teachers Join Protest Of Insecurity, Kidnap In Schools

The Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, Rivers State Wing, has called on the Federal and State Governments to take urgent measures to safeguard schools, teachers, and students amid rising insecurity across the country.

The call was made during a solidarity rally in Port Harcourt, where teachers condemned the recent killing of a teacher in Oyo State and expressed concern over the continued abduction and captivity of teachers and students in different parts of Nigeria.

Representing the Rivers State Chairman of the NUT, Bassey Asuquo, described the attack on the Oyo school as a direct assault on education and the future of the nation, as other teachers expressed their displeasure over the alarming rate of insecurity in Nigeria.

Responding on behalf of the Rivers State Government, the Commissioner for Education assured teachers that the government shares their concerns and remains committed to ensuring the safety of schools across the state.

The solidarity rally ended with renewed calls for stronger protection of schools nationwide and greater commitment by all levels of government to the safety and welfare of teachers and students.
