SDP Berates Tinubu Over New Loan
The Social Democratic Party, SDP, has berated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over acquisition of new loans, increasing Nigeria's debt burden.
The SDP, accordingly, condemned Nigeria’s growing reliance on loans, describing it as misplaced priority amid deepening economic and infrastructure challenges.
SDP National Chairman, Sadiq Gombe, at a media briefing in Abuja, lamented that many key infrastructure projects, including major roads and rail developments, remain uncompleted despite huge spending, questioning the justification for fresh borrowings.
Gombe warned that excessive dependence on loans without visible development outcomes undermines national progress.
He emphasized that government should prioritise investment in education, healthcare, and sustainable infrastructure rather than servicing the interests of a few individuals.
The national chairman dissociated the SDP from any alliance with the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, insisting that the SDP is an independent platform with a distinct ideological direction.
He reiterated the party's commitment to offering Nigerians a viable political alternative ahead of future elections, anchored on transparency, accountability, and people-driven governance.
Also, the National Publicity Secretary of SDP, Rufus Aiyenigba, expressed concerns over the rising insecurity and economic hardship, accusing the government of failing in its constitutional responsibility to protect lives and ensure citizens’ welfare.
