NURTW Crisis: Baruwa Reclaims Union Secretariat After Court Judgement
The leadership crisis in the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, escalated after court judgement that empowered Alhaji Tajudeen Ibikunle Baruwa to resume at the union’s national secretariat in Abuja.
Baruwa’s move follows judgments by the National Industrial Court and the Court of Appeal affirming him as the union’s duly elected president and restraining interference in his leadership.
The protracted dispute, marked by a forceful takeover of the secretariat and years of legal battles between rival factions, appears to have reached a turning point.
Baruwa said the takeover was in compliance with court orders and that the police had been duly notified ahead of the move.
Also speaking, the union’s General Secretary, Comrade Suleiman Abdulkadir Musa, said the action became necessary after repeated efforts to persuade occupants of the secretariat to vacate failed.
Baruwa has continued to oppose the emergence of Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, a development that has further deepened divisions within the union.
