National Assembly Adjourns Plenary to June 2 for Party Primaries
The National Assembly has adjourned plenary sessions in both chambers to June 2, 2026, to enable lawmakers participate in party primaries and other political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The announcement was made by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, who said the adjournment was in line with the timetable released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for the upcoming elections.
Akpabio noted that the break would allow senators and members of the House of Representatives to return to their constituencies and fully participate in the nomination processes and other political engagements within their various parties.
There have been rising political activities across various parties, including the submission of nomination forms, defections, consultations, and preparations for primary elections ahead of the 2027 polls.
