Akpabio Leads Senate Delegation To Terrorized Anguwan Rukuba

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, will be leading Senate delegation to terrorized Plateau community, Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, where killings have been rampant in recent times, to commiserate with affected victims.

The senators made the resolution to send a delegation to Plateau followed a motion of urgent public importance, sponsored by Senator Diket Plang, Plateau Central, and Senator Dachung Mwadkon, Plateau North, who raised concerns over the worsening security situation in Kanam and Jos North local government areas.

Leading debate on the motion, Plang lamented that Plateau State, once, celebrated as the “Home of Peace and Tourism" has witnessed a resurgence of violent attacks after years of relative stability.

The Senate, subsequently, ordered the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu , to commence comprehensive investigation into the recent killings in Anguwan Rukuba, Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, where at least 28 persons were reportedly killed.

Contributing to the debate, lawmakers expressed concerns over, what they described as, the increasingly complex nature of the crisis, citing its economic, ethnic and religious dimensions.

They urged the Senate leadership to expedite the proposed national security summit, if it would produce practical solutions to the country’s growing security challenges.

Reaffirming that the protection of lives and property remains the primary responsibility of government, the Senate urged security agencies to adopt proactive strategies, including permanent bases in volatile areas, improved intelligence, and increase recruitment into the police and armed forces.
