Officer Threatening To Shoot Anyone Videoing Him Lands In Police Net

An officer, who on a viral social media post, was threatening to shoot and kill anyone who records him in a video on duty post, has landed in police net in Anambra State.

The personnel, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Newton Isokpehi, has been arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over his video threat to shoot and kill anyone or group videoing him at his duty post.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police, in charge of operations, DCP Ngozi Ezeabata, in a statement on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, indicated that after reviewing the video, the Command immediately identified and arrested the officer.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police maintained that the arrest was in line with the disciplinary standards and ethical code of the Nigeria Police Force internal disciplinary proceedings.

The Police have sent Assistant Superintendent Newton Isokpehi for drug test to aid the Command in establishing the circumstances of his misconduct and ensuring a thorough and transparent process.

The Anambra Police Commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, condemned the conduct displayed by the officer in the video. He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined institution that will not condone misconduct, abuse of office, incitement or any form of unprofessional behavior, capable of undermining public trust and confidence.
