NUJ FCT Flags off Health Insurance Scheme for Journalists

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, has officially flagged off a health insurance initiative aimed at improving the welfare and wellbeing of journalists in the Federal Capital Territory.

 

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the NUJ FCT Council, Comrade Grace Ike, described the programme as a historic milestone for the council, noting that it is the first time a health insurance scheme is being introduced specifically for journalists in the territory.

 

According to her, the initiative reflects a commitment to protecting journalists who dedicate their lives to informing the public noting that while journalism is widely regarded as a noble profession, the health and welfare of those behind the stories are often overlooked.

 

She added that beyond supporting journalists, the initiative would also help promote awareness of health insurance among residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

 

Also speaking, the Mandate Secretary the FCT Health Services and Environment Secretariat, Dr. Adedolapo Fasawe, stressed that access to basic healthcare should not be considered a luxury but a necessity for every citizen.

 

Also the National Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalist, also listed the aims and objective of the insurance urging journalist to enroll themselves and their family member
