ADC Adopts Consensus Model for Election of Party Executives

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has adopted a consensus model for the election of party executives ahead of its upcoming congresses and national convention. In a statement jointly signed by the party’s Factional National Chairman, Nafi’u Bala Gombe, and the Board of Trustees (BOT) Secretary, Rufus Ikanmi, the party said the decision was aimed at strengthening unity, inclusiveness and internal cohesion within its ranks.

The leadership of the party explained that the consensus approach would be used to elect executives at all levels of the party structure in line with the party’s constitution and the amended Electoral Act 2026. According to the statement, the Board of Trustees and the National Working Committee believe the consensus arrangement will encourage cooperation, understanding and collective leadership among members, thereby strengthening the party’s ability to achieve its objectives.

The party also announced the commencement of a membership registration exercise for new members. According to the leadership, the registration exercise began on March 14, 2026 and will run until March 25, 2026. Prospective members are required to register at their respective ward offices and obtain their membership cards from the Continuous Membership Registration Committee. The party clarified that the exercise is strictly for new members, noting that existing members are not required to renew their membership at this time.

Meanwhile, the ADC has released a timetable for its congresses and national convention. Ward congresses are scheduled to hold on March 19, while local government congresses will take place on March 24. State congresses are slated for March 28. The party’s national convention is expected to hold between April 3 and April 5, 2026, while issues arising from the convention are expected to be resolved between April 6 and April 10.

The leadership also distanced the party from an ongoing electronic membership mobilization, registration and revalidation exercise reportedly being conducted by members of a coalition. The party emphasized that its constitution clearly outlines procedures for membership application and urged members and stakeholders to disregard any unofficial registration processes.
