FG Trains Rehabilitated 744 Repentant Terrorists
The Federal Government has completed the training of 744 rehabilitated repentant terrorists in North East Nigeria.
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oloyede, was of the view that Nigeria’s fight against insurgency must combine military action with rehabilitation to achieve lasting peace.
Represented by the Director of Special Forces, Defence Headquarters, Rear Admiral Kabir Tanimu, at the graduation of 744 rehabilitated terrorists, under Operation Safe Corridor in Gombe State, the CDS described the programme as a key non-kinetic strategy focused on de-radicalization, rehabilitation, and reintegration to reduce violence and prevent future recruitment into extremist groups.
Also, the Coordinator of Operation Safe Corridor, Brigadier General Yusuf Ali, urged the graduates to embrace a fresh start, noting that the initiative goes beyond disengagement by rebuilding identity, restoring values, and preparing participants for responsible citizenship.
The beneficiaries underwent months of psychosocial support, vocational training, religious reorientation, and civic education, with many drawn into conflict through abduction or coercion.
Graduates were reminded that their future depends on the choices they make, as stakeholders called on communities and state governments to support reintegration efforts.
Operation Safe Corridor, officials said it remains a key pillar in Nigeria’s strategy to promote lasting peace and national stability.
Senior Special Assistant to the Gombe State Governor on Security, Yusuf Danbayo, who represented the Governor of Gombe State, described the event as a significant milestone for both the beneficiaries and the nation, highlighting that it as a testament to Nigeria’s commitment to peace-building, rehabilitation, and national cohesion.
He urged the graduates to make the most of the opportunity, remain law-abiding, and contribute positively to their communities.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the unveiling of a de-radicalization studio designed to sustain engagement and reinforce behavioral change beyond the programme.
