COAS Enjoins Retirees To Be Prudent, Avoid Investment Scams
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has urged retiring military personnel to exercise financial discipline and avoid fraudulent investments, as they transition to civilian life.
At the Graduation Dinner for participants of Pre-Discharge Course 1/2026 at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre, Oshodi, Lagos, the COAS warned retirees against risky ventures that could jeopardise their retirement benefits. He advised them to thoroughly verify investment opportunities before committing their savings.
Represented by the Commander, Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers, Major General Shamsideen Shafaru, the Army Chief congratulated the graduands on completing a distinguished military career, noting their contributions to national security and territorial defence.
He stressed that retirement is not the end of service, urging them to remain responsible ambassadors of the Armed Forces and contribute to national development. He also commended the NAFRC leadership for improvements in infrastructure, welfare, and training.
Commandant of NAFRC, Air Vice Marshal Nnaemeka Ilo, charged the retirees to uphold the values of integrity, loyalty, patriotism, and professionalism, while applying the vocational and entrepreneurial skills acquired during the course to build productive post-service lives.
